This is the first in a series of new interpretations of Irish songs and ballads.
Other songs will include Raglan Road and Spancil Hill.
‘The Foggy Dew’ was written by Canon Charles O’Neill in 1919 after he attended the first meeting of Dáil Eireann in Dublin’s Mansion House, on January 21. The poem laments the fact that many Irish men fought for the crown of England overseas, instead of fighting for freedom against the crown in their home land.
